Deena Goes to Rehab
Another miracle - Deena was moved to Baylor Institute of Rehab today - YEAH! She is currently in room 307 and is in a room with 3 other patients and a full time nurse. Eventually she will be moved to a semi private room but that will be on down the road as she progresses. For those of you who don't know - Baylor Rehab is one of the top Rehab units in the Country. According to Michael he was given a choice of where Deena could be moved and he chose to stay at Baylor for numerous reasons - the first being that she will still be close to her doctors that have cared for since the accident and for obvious reasons with the top rating that they have.
Deena will be spending the next 3 days being evaluated of all of her fine motor skills. These are the skills that you and I take for granted each day - such as swallowing, breathing, walking, talking, etc. There will then be numerous meetings with the nurses and rehab staff and the family is involved in the first and last of the meetings and evaluation.
There has been no time given as to how long Deena will be in rehab - but according to Deena's trauma doctor - Michael was told to expect for every 1 day in ICU you could expect at least 2 days in rehabe (2 for 1 so to speak). If Michael's assumptions are correct, Deena can expect to be in rehab for about 20 to 30 days.
I'm sure that Deena will be put to the test each day and faced with new challenges. This could prove to be very tiring for her too I'm sure as she learns to do some of the simple tasks that we sometimes take for granted.
Please continue to keep Deena in your prayers as she starts her new journey in rehab. This is going to make the holidays go by ever so slow I'm sure for Michael and Greg - so please again, keep them in your prayers as well.
